To create a passkey on a Samsung device without using Samsung Pass, go to your device’s settings and change the preferred passkey storage service / passkey provider / credential manager to your choice ( e.g., Google Password Manager, 1Password, Dashlane) before creating a new passkey. This workaround ensures your passkey is saved to a different passkey provider.
To avoid Samsung Pass and save passkeys elsewhere, you can use a few methods, including adjusting your passkey storage settings on your Samsung device. Samsung devices tend to push Samsung Pass as the default option, but you can work around this by pre-setting your preferred passkey provider.
Here’s how to create a passkey and save it to another service, such as Google Password Manager:

Samsung devices try to push Samsung Pass when no other passkey provider is available and often Samsung Pass. By default, Samsung Pass takes over, but if you manually configure your device ahead of time, you can bypass this issue. Samsung prioritizes its own ecosystem, which is why Samsung Pass is pushed as the default passkey manager. However, most users prefer a more versatile manager like Google Password Manager. Changing the settings and saving your passkey preferences beforehand allows you to use other managers without interference.
We successfully tested the solution above on a Samsung Galaxy S21 and S24 with Android 14.
You need to make sure that all passkey providers are ticked in the All services selection in the Android settings.
To use Samsung Pass, you need to have a logged-in Samsung account. You can do this in the Manage account section of the Android settings.
To use Google Password Manager, you need to be logged into your Google account. You can log into your Google account via the Manage account section in the Android settings.
If you have multiple Google accounts and thus multiple instances of the Google Password Manager, all of the accounts are shown in the Save another way selection:
If you neither have Google nor a Samsung account connected to your Android (which happens quite rarely in practice as many services cannot be used then), Samsung shows Samsung Pass as default option:
There is no Save another way option, as there is no account / passkey provider connected that could be used. If you click on Create, your Samsung device will guide you through the setup of Samsung Pass to store the passkey there.
If you don’t set up Samsung pass or another passkey provider, you won’t be able to store a passkey on your Samsung device
